2023 Halliday Wine Companion Awards
Discover the 2023 Halliday 95 point wine from Brand’s Laira, Coonawarra
The much-anticipated results of the 2023 Halliday Wine Companion awards have been announced. James Halliday has been Australia's most respected wine critic for nearly 40 years, and the annual Halliday Wine Companion is recognised as the benchmark for Australian wine.
From a total of more than 8000 wines tasted for the 2023 Halliday Wine Companion, we are delighted that our 2018 Brand’s Laira Stentiford’s Old Vine Shiraz received 95 points, which is a gold medal.
Reviewer Erin Larkin describes the wine;
“Fruit from the original plantings from 1893. Matured for 21 months in oak. Concentrated, black and dense, with finely knit tannins and a framework of oak that has all but sunk into the fruit. The alcohol leaves a real licorice trail through the finish, threatening to rear up and make itself known, but backs down at the last. A wine of longevity, breadth and detail. Deliciously old-school. Very good.”
With old vine vineyards dating back to 1893, Brand’s Laira offers a range of elegant yet richly flavoured premium wines from the distinct Coonawarra region. The winemakers skillfully craft wines that are approachable and ready to drink upon release but with considerable aging potential, such as perfect for collectors. The 2018 Stentiford’s Shiraz is a fine example of this.
The 2018 Stentiford's Shiraz is coming soon. In the meantime, you can enjoy the 2016 vintage. James Halliday awarded this wine 97 points and featured it in his Top 100 wines for 2020.
A big thank you to our growers, viticulturists, winemakers, and everyone involved in creating this exceptional wine. We hope you enjoy it and experience the passion and rich stories captured in every bottle.
